Courses offered for the Summer 2010 Session

Cartooning

Ages 6-11

Students will be taught various techniques to create cels, storyboards, and comic strips, and will also learn about overlaying with acetate. In addition, students will develop skills for copying and creating their own cartoon characters.

Drawing and Painting

Ages 5-10

Students will learn various drawing and painting techniques and will explore different art media each week. Themes will be used throughout the summer to reinforce prior learning.

Sculpture and Pottery

Ages 6-11

Students will be taught a variety of techniques to create three-dimensional artworks. Students will receive individual attention on the potter's wheel and be taught basic techniques for throwing pots. Materials include a variety of air dry and oil base clays for hand building as well as other sculpture materials for glyptic (carved) forms.

Famous Artist

In this camp children will learn the styles and techniques of the masters. This course focuses on drawing and painting. A variety of art supplies will be explored including but not limited to pencil, oil pastel, watercolor, colored pencil, marker, and tempera.

Anime / Manga / Cartooning

Class - $80.00

Ages 11-17

Using a variety of traditional cartooning techniques, students will draw, ink, and hand-color action packed storyboards and comic strips. The class will begin with a series of exercises and demonstrations of how to develop and animate characters using basic shape construction. Students will create male, female, animal, and robotic characters in the Anime/Manga style.

Parent and Child

Class - $75.00 (per pair)

Throughout this program parents and children will work on projects together using different art materials and techniques. There is a lesson planned for each class.

Adult Students

Adults

This class is designed for beginner students who want to learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting. Adult students supply their own art materials. Materials will be discussed during the first class. The art center will provide art materials for the first class.
